About the Course
Designed for students in grades 5–8, U.S. History I is ideal for learners who have not yet completed a traditional U.S. history course and are ready for the challenge and rigor of an accredited middle school program.
Unlike many online history courses, every lesson, activity, and assessment has been created by experienced, licensed Virginia educators with more than 20 years of experience working with students in international schools around the world.
This asynchronous course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) for U.S. History I and provides students with the flexibility to learn from anywhere while receiving personalized feedback from a real teacher.
What Makes This Course Different?
Beyond learning U.S. history, students develop important academic skills that help them succeed in future classes, including:
Historical research skills
Note-taking and study strategies
MLA citation and formatting
Project-based learning skills
Critical thinking and analysis
Responsible use of AI tools for learning
These are skills that are often not explicitly taught in many international school settings and can benefit students across all subject areas.
Personalized Teacher Feedback
At the completion of each Unit Organizer and Final Project, families receive:
A graded rubric
Narrative teacher comments
Suggestions for improvement and future success
In addition, students complete a brief midpoint check-in after the unit organizer to ensure they are mastering key concepts before moving forward.
